While there is excellent cover over most of the Loppet Trial System, there is still work to be done: cover a few dirty spots, snow in icy spots, and, most important, work on the lakes.
In most years the Loppet crew steals from caches of snow on the lakes for weak spots on the trails. This year the lakes are thin while the trails generally have plenty of snow. Never fear – the Foundation has a multi-pronged plan for the lakes, including:
- Push snow into ribbons with plow trucks (this process started Friday with work on Wirth Lake)
- Steal snow from the leeward sides of the lakes and dump it in the weak areas using snowmobiles and tubs
- Push and groom snow with the Pisten Bully and Tidd Tech groomers
- A double-top-secret de-icing method to be revealed
The Foundation needs help to accomplish these tasks.
- The Foundation is looking for people with plows – with box-type plows especially valuable. Call Course Chief Craig Rudd at 763 242-0176
- The Foundation needs shovelers. Several shoveling parties have been scheduled:
- Monday Party with Coach Bednarski: noon – 3 p.m. Meet at Theodore Wirth Chalet parking lot. Bring coal-style shovel(s). Call Piotr at 952 237-0765 if arrive late.
- Tuesday and Wednesday with Mike Kosowski. Two shifts: 1-3 and 3-5 p.m. Meet Theodore Wirth Chalet parking lot. Bring coal style shovel(s). Call Mike at 612 702-5987 if arrive late.
Can’t make these times? Check back for an evening party to be scheduled as needed.
